At the beginning of 2023, Lowell’s Town Council announced their acceptance of a $3.5 million grant from The Foundation to redesign and rename Liberty Park, in tribute to a longtime business partner and friend of the White family. The park will be dedicated to the late William R. Nassau. This project aims to improve the quality of life for residents by providing new opportunities and adding modern amenities without diminishing its small town atmosphere.

William R. Nassau Park will offer an outdoor amphitheater for concerts and theater performances, a community building for organized events, splash pads, playgrounds and outdoor shelters. Construction is slated to begin in fall 2023 and is expected to conclude in 2025. It is the first of many efforts that will revitalize Downtown Lowell and create new economic opportunities.

COMMUNITY IMPACT

ONE

The amphitheater will be capable of seating a 100-piece orchestra, paving the way for an array of exhilarating events.

TWO

The playground and splash pad provide new opportunities for children to connect with peers while using their imaginations.

THREE

Renaming the park in honor of William R. Nassau pays tribute to a cherished community figure and reinforces historical connections.

FOUR

Nassau Park’s new restrooms and concession stands will enhance the overall experience of guests and make the park more enjoyable for everyone.

FIVE

The Freedom Trail, also funded by the donation, will connect Freedom Park to William R. Nassau Park and the captivating historic Downtown area.

SIX

Tourism will be boosted in the area with the addition of the new community building that will promote local events.

The Foundation has made a huge impact in this area for so many years. From their generosity, and the employees they’ve taken care of for many years, so we appreciate them. It’s an honor for them to honor my grandfather like this in the town I grew up in. It’s a great thing, and we thank the town for doing this.”
