In March 2023, the Foundation committed $10 million toward Tolleston Opportunity Hub’s initiative, which will make a positive generational impact on the health and wellness of Gary residents. Utilizing the existing footprint, the new 40,000-square-foot facility will include and connect the YMCA and Methodist Hospital, featuring urban gardens, a central kitchen, a pool, physical therapy, a pharmacy, and urgent care services. The second fundraising campaign was launched shortly after the completion of the first phase. Dedicated to the development of an expansive outdoor recreation area, the goal of this community project is to serve as a source of inspiration, an educational platform, and a means to enhance the well-being of the community.

COMMUNITY IMPACT

ONE

Gary and the surrounding communities’ residents will have access to a range of health-related services, including fitness programs, health education, preventive care, and a medical facility.

Collaborating with the White Foundation will provide Tolleston Hub with more resources and knowledge, allowing them to efficiently address various community needs.

FOUR

The wellness campus will boost local economic development by attracting businesses, generating jobs, and revitalizing the community.

With its state-of-the-art healthcare and programs, Tolleston Opportunity Hub will instill pride within the community of Gary.

The Tolleston Opportunity Campus will be a collaborative partnership that will transform the Tolleston community for generations to come. We could not be more excited and appreciative of the three lead funders and program partners who support this vision and are committed to seeing it come to fruition.”
