BUILDING EXPANSION PROJECT

2019

GRAND RE-OPENING

The Hammond YMCA was an addition and remodeling project totaling $4 million. A gift of $1 million from the Foundation made it possible to expand the existing space by 5,000-sq feet. The missions of both Crossroads YMCA and the Foundation align in enhancing the social well-being of Indiana through quality general education, wellness education, and finding enjoyment in the creation of vibrant communities.

Dedicated on August 20th, 2019, the updated facility celebrated its new amenities, including a new gym floor, two multipurpose rooms, a 1,500-sq ft “Kids Zone”, an expanded parking lot, remodeled lobby, and larger windows that let in more natural light and enhance the building’s exterior appearance.

COMMUNITY IMPACT

ONE

The center provides space for families to come together and enjoy quality time with one another.

TWO

By expanding the center’s square footage, more services and programs can be administered.

THREE

The center offers children a safe place in the community to stay after school.

FOUR

Through the promotion of educational opportunities, youth can grow in the areas of literacy, math, science, social studies, the arts, and wellness.

FIVE

It encourages new experiences for children with monthly rotating programs like gymnastics, dance, cooking, and STEAM classes (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math).

SIX

The center’s Safety Around Water initiative teaches children the critical skills needed to reduce drowning through its pre- and post-water skills test.

The Dean and Barbara White Foundation, they want people to have accessibility, and all the things that make a healthy, connected family. The Y’s work is just one of the areas they feel they can make a big impact. That legacy will continue, from south Lake to Hammond and into the future.”

The Dean & Barbara White Foundation is very easy to work with because they are aligned with supporting the community. The Foundation wants to invest in our community, and that is a great match with the YMCA’s values and mission.”
